Friday Night Lights at CrossFit 701

Winter is in full swing, so that means The CrossFit Open is right around the corner! For those of you unfamiliar with The Open, it is a world wide CrossFit competition that takes place over a span of three weeks. It's for athletes of all abilities, ages, backgrounds, and body types.

For the elite, The Open is the first phase in qualifying for The CrossFit Games.

For us at CrossFit 701, The Open is a celebration of community, friends, fitness, and fun! (Although we will have a few badass athletes advance to the QuarterFinals. Whoop whoop!)

It's an opportunity for athletes to showcase their hard work. It's a time to come together as a community, cheer each other on, give out some high fives, and support our fellow athletes. It's a platform that allows our athletes to achieve the impossible and start to understand what they are truly capable of.

CrossFit 701 will be hosting a Friday Night Lights event. Each Friday during The Open, we will put on a mini competition of the workout released that week. Here are just a few reasons you should join us at Friday Night Lights.

Welcome to the Family!

What makes a CrossFit gym so magical is the community. People of different ages, backgrounds, athletic abilities, occupations, ect., all united by fitness.

Friday Night Lights gives you the opportunity to catch up with old friends that you might not get to see due to conflicting schedules. It’s a way to get to know fellow members, or to welcome new members into the madness. It’s proof that the members of the 5:15am do indeed exist and are capable of staying out past 4:00pm.

Half of my wedding party consisted of athletes I met at or got closer to through Friday Night Lights. (True story. I played the Rocky theme song on a recorder for my Maid of Honor during 16.3.)

Show Us What You Got!

You work hard at the gym. Now is a great time to showcase your skills.

As adults, we don’t have a ton of opportunities to compete. Friday Night Lights is a low pressure way to experience the 3.2.1 countdown of the clock, the cheers of the crowd, the high fives, and the PRs.

It's a perfect opportunity to dip your toe into the sports side of CrossFit.

Numbers Don’t Lie

By keeping track of your scores from year to year, we can see by pure data how our fitness has progressed over time.

Personally, I don’t expect to do better than I did last year, but I can look back at Open Workout 16.3 and remember that I couldn’t do a single jumping chest to bar pull-up. I can now do muscles ups. I remember the cheer of the crowd during during 18.1b as I stood up my 175# clean. A weight I can now comfortably cycle.

I will look back at my 2023 scores and remember that's the year I bought into a gym and my life changed completely! Those will be fun scores to reminisce on as well.

Good Times!

It's a time to celebrate. Celebrate our health. Celebrate the community we have built. Celebrate our family and friends. And just flat out celebrate.Seriously, we have tons of food, drinks, and prizes to give away, so come ready to party!

Next Steps

1) Head to open.crossfit.com to officially register yourself for The Open. However, you don’t need to be officially registered to partake in Friday Night Lights.

2) Go to crossfit.com/online-courses/judges-course to take the CrossFit Official Judges Course. Again, not a requirement, but it would be pretty rad to be able to help out judging!

3) RSVP to our Facebook event

See you at Friday Night Lights!
